The Standard of Taste that Hume lays out doesn't explain why what is better for the TJ is better for the ordinary man - the TJ might be able to evaluate their own judgements better as they might realise that they were overlooking something, but if the ordinary man cannot change their perceptions then why should they care what the TJ thinks?

In one of his writings, The Standard of Taste, Hume discusses his views on the requirements and dimensions in comparing tastes on art. He states that no one person holds the absolute definition of beauty, but the combination of these opinions is the standard of taste by which to judge art.
